Rafael Correa — former president of Ecuador (2007-2017) — was one of the Latin American
leaders who claimed the legacy of Simón Bolívar. Thus, the question is: to what extent
did Rafael Correa make use of Simón Bolívar’s legacy to govern Ecuador? The general
objective is to verify the existence of Simón Bolívar’s legacy in Rafael Correa’s governments
in Ecuador’s political and economic spheres. This is a study with a qualitative approach,
based on documentary and bibliographical research. The results of this study indicate that
Correa has appropriated the legacy of Bolivar to stay in power.
