Does process-tracing-based research in Brazilian political science and International Relations
follow the guidelines of this methodological approach? Process tracing has become one of
the main qualitative methods for identifying causal relationships in time, being increasingly
used in Brazil. However, difficulties persist in its implementation, especially with regard
to its epistemological and methodological assumptions. In this article, we perform a
bibliometric analysis of articles published in Brazilian political science and IR journals
in the last decade that mobilized process tracing, assessing whether its implementation
follows the minimum guidelines recommended by the literature.
