The increasing use of artificial intelligence in the military field has sparked reflections on
how this technology could transform the way we deal with the uncertainties of war. This
article analyzes the influence of artificial intelligence on the Clausewitzian concept of the
“fog of war,” taking into account the transformations in contemporary conflicts, with a
particular focus on the war between Russia and Ukraine. Adopting a qualitative approach,
the study concludes that, although artificial intelligence contributes to the compression of
decision-making cycles and the enhancement of situational awareness, it does not eliminate
the uncertainty inherent to war; on the contrary, it reconfigures it.
