Abstract

To what extent is Latin American regional integration determined and limited by
the dominant accumulation pattern in globalization? Starting from a critique of the
insufficiency of analyses that emphasize institutional evolutions or ideological shifts
as markers of changes in the regionalist paradigm, this article proposes an alternative
conceptual framework to situate Latin American regionalism, and more specifically
Mercosur, in the context of the continuity of global capitalism and its systemic
character, dialectically encompassing its crises and transformations, giving centrality
to the notion of accumulation pattern and coloniality as its structuring factor.
